Privacy Policy
Landlord Atlas is a static informational site operated by Landlord Atlas LLC, a Michigan limited liability company ("we," "us"). There are no accounts, no logins, and no databases of visitors — the one thing you can give us is an email address for the optional Law Alerts newsletter, described below. This page explains the little that does happen with data, in plain language.
What the site does not collect
- No accounts — the site has no login of any kind. The optional Law Alerts signup below is an email address, not an account.
- No cookies set by the site itself.
- No form submissions to us except the optional Law Alerts signup described below. The tools (calculators and letter generators) run entirely in your browser: every figure and letter is computed on your device from state-law data embedded in the page when the site was built. Anything you type — names, addresses, rent amounts, dates — is never transmitted to us or to anyone else. Copy and print actions happen locally too.
- No advertising networks, tracking pixels, or cross-site tracking.
- No selling or sharing of personal information — the newsletter list is never sold, shared, or used for anything but Law Alerts.
What does exist
- The Law Alerts newsletter (optional). If you subscribe to Law Alerts, the email address you enter is sent by our own server to Beehiiv, the newsletter platform that hosts our list — no Beehiiv script, iframe, or pixel runs on this site, and we do not store or log your address on our side. Beehiiv holds the subscriber list on our behalf and records, alongside your address, which page of this site you signed up from; that is everything. Delivery and list storage are governed by Beehiiv's privacy policy. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe, which removes your address from the list.
- One browser preference. When you pick your state in a tool, that choice is saved in your browser's local storage so other tools remember it. It stays on your device, is never sent anywhere, and you can clear it any time through your browser settings.
- Aggregate analytics. The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, a cookieless service enabled through our host. It gives us aggregate counts — page views, referrers, and similar totals — without cookies, without tracking you across other sites, and without building individual profiles.
- Hosting infrastructure. The site is served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes standard request data (such as IP addresses) to deliver pages and protect against attacks. That processing is governed by Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Email you send us. If you email contact@landlordatlas.com, we receive what you send and use it only to respond — for example, to handle a correction.
- Affiliate links. Some pages carry a clearly labeled recommendation for a landlord service (currently Hemlane, a property-management platform, or ezLandlordForms, a landlord document service). Nothing about you is transmitted when a page loads. If you click a partner link — including the Payhip buy button below — the site counts that click: we record which page it happened on, which partner the link goes to, and the date. That tally is an aggregate number stored with our host (Cloudflare); it contains no cookies, no IP addresses, and no information about who you are, and we use it only to learn which pages are useful. The link itself tells the partner only that the visit came from Landlord Atlas; if you subscribe or purchase there, we earn a commission. Once you are on the partner's site, their own privacy policy governs.
- Dataset downloads. If you click a download link on the dataset page, the site counts that click the same way as a partner link: which page it happened on, which file the link goes to, and the date — an aggregate tally with no cookies, no IP addresses, and no information about who you are. We use it only to learn whether the dataset is being evaluated.
- Purchases happen on Payhip. We sell one paid product, the Landlord Operations Bundle. The buy button is a plain link to Payhip, our checkout provider — this site embeds no commerce scripts and never sees your payment details. Checkout is governed by Payhip's privacy policy (and PayPal's, if you pay that way). Payhip tells us only what's needed to support your purchase, such as the email address tied to the order.
If this changes
The affiliate placements described above were first added July 21, 2026 (Hemlane), with ezLandlordForms added July 27, 2026. On July 22, 2026 we began counting clicks on partner links as described above, with this policy updated the same day. On August 8, 2026 we began counting clicks on dataset download links the same way, with this policy updated the same day. On August 10, 2026 this policy was updated to name the site's operating entity, Landlord Atlas LLC; nothing about how data is handled changed. On July 28, 2026 the optional Law Alerts signup was added, with this policy updated the same day. See the About page for how the site is funded. Before advertising or anything else that changes how data is handled is introduced, this policy will be updated first, with a new effective date.
